Hi, I’m Nora. This blog has been years in the making, and in it I share personal stories and what I’ve learned from them. Years ago, I was surprised to find out that my name means “light” and decided that even though it was something I inherited from a family member, I wanted to honor it intentionally and the best I could.
You may be wondering, why Flicker and Spark? Flickers are both described as “sudden bursts of light” and in this space I attempt to shine a light on moments of life that may be shared experiences with others, and with you. A flicker is a light that’s unsteady and wavering. Flickers happen quickly, with different levels of brightness. A flicker can also be a short-lived emotion that comes and goes. Sparks are fiery, bright, and small particles, sudden bursts of light, or very small flames. From an emotional perspective, sparks are bursts of energy or inspiration. I find these two expressions of light a good reflection of how life can often feel: big bursts at times, faint flickers at others.
As you read this blog I invite you to come along on my journey of curiosity and discovery as I shine a light on ideas, experiences, and challenges I’m working through. I hope that the light flickers at least for a moment to show you glimpses of possibilities, and if I’m lucky, that these words spark new ideas and connections in us.
Oh, one more thing about me: I love the Oxford comma, and hope that’s okay with you because you will find it here often. Now, let’s turn the light on.
